MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

INNOVATIONS IN TEACHING AND LEARNING BY THE FACULTY MEMBERS

Innovative methods in Teaching and Learning is a major area which paves the path for the student in Learning the concepts interestingly. The concepts in mechanical department needs imaginative and innovative ways to grab the attention to the students and also improves the Knowledge if done so. To make it possible Innovations by the Faculty in teaching and learning done in the department is summarized below.

MIND MAPPING:

This is an approach we initiated recently. Now a days Students are very much fond of learning through pictures. The objective of this innovative method is to make the learning either active/passive very interesting. Here maximum content relevant to the concept is covered in a single picture so that student can easily grab the content.

Example:

CASE STUDIES:

This is an approach where the real world failures are taken into consideration. Usually in industries Design Failure mode analysis is taken in to consideration while designing a product because failure mode analysis can map n number of ways to assess the failures. In the same way, Case study is ancient and proven technique where students are put forth the situation in front of them so that they can think and act accordingly. As the situations are already happened, Students can learn more from them and understand, what steps NOT to be taken if these type of situations arise.

PICTURE BASED QUIZ:

The main objective of the topic is to teach the student in most innovative way. As Mechanical Engineer has to understand and imagine complex objects and this can be mere possible if we improve Pictorial based activities. So, this can be done by this concept. Here, in our end we are preparing Picture based Quiz by some of our faculty to deliver the Complex concepts in much simpler fashion.

ONE-MINUTE FEEDBACK:

It is very important to get the feedback after a critical concept is explained in the Class work. To reduce the wastage of time, One-Minute feedback is introduced. This gives clear idea that at what extent the student understood the concept. This also adds points in improving ICT Tools in a best possible way.

EXPLAINING CONCEPT WITH REAL LIFE EXAMPLES:

In a Class room learning explanation plays a vital role in understanding the concept to the student. Integrating basic teaching with real life examples increases the ability of student to learn the content better.

Some of the Sample Examples are:

Subject Concept Explanation
Thermodynamics First law and second law of thermodynamics Melting of ice cube: Ice cubes in a drink absorb heat from the drink making the drink cooler. If we forget to drink it, after some time, it again attains room temperature by absorbing the atmospheric heat. All this happens as per the first and second law of thermodynamics.
Design of Machine Members-I Eccentric loading Basket ball goal
Advanced Materials Filament Winding Golf Club Shafts, Auto Mobile Drive Shafts, Sail Boat Masts, Oars And Paddles For Small Boat. Small Aircraft Fuselages, Space Craft Structures, Pressure Vessels
Heat Transfer Conduction Cooking using copper and Aluminium pan

VIDEOS:

To enhance the learning skills of Students by using appropriate teaching Aids and thus helping them to understand better using virtual way of explanation.

VOICE ADDED POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS:

The main objective of the program is to reach the Student when in need to make the Presentations as a Self-explanatory. So, faculty can give their time to record their explanation throughout the Presentation and make them available in Pragati e-Portal at their respective subject columns to access at any time.
